Thank you so much for taking the time to make that comment, Mary. Writing can feel so confusing because you do it to connect with others, but you don't always hear back from readers to know that the connection was made. That's why I cherish comments like these. ❤️

I really appreciate this post. I've been working on this so much over the last few years. My therapist asked me, years ago, how my life would change if I trusted myself -- and the question rocked my world. I'd never considered that so much of my anxiety was linked to an underlying feeling of being unsafe. Your exploration of how creating safety for yourself is a hero's journey is giving me so much to think about. Thank you!

Thank you for this comment Haley! It has taken me so, so long to put this together -- that excess anxiety is a result of a dysregulated nervous system and the way you fix that is to teach yourself that you are safe. But how the hell to do that in a world that doesn't always feel safe? That is the work for sure. Also thank you for all you to do to help people understand the power of "close reading." Learning to read the world around you (and your experiences in it) closely is a core tool to making progress.

It is so serendipitous that you say that because I've been working on an essay about how closely reading is a form a healing! This definitely inspires me to keep on that track.

Definitely, definitely do stay on that track. Also btw I posted a reel on Instagram (@bevoya) this morning that reminds me of that!
